How did you come to be a Carlisle Consultant?

Two of my best friends were starting an agency. We were all having lunch one day when they were talking about their start-up, and I asked if they needed any help.

After five years, they were ready to retire and they offered their agency to me. Both my children were in college, and it seemed a good time to start my own business. The clothes, of course, were an attraction, and I also liked the idea of being my own boss, of setting my own schedule, and being able to work out of my home. As it happened, at the time that I took over my own agency, my family was living in a new home designed by my husband, who is an architect. The home looks like it was built to sell Carlisle. In fact, people would come in and ask, "Did you build it just for this?" We didn't, but it was a happy coincidence.

In what important ways has being a Carlisle Consultant affected your life?

If I'm being honest, I have to say that I do like having my own salary. But the most important aspects go far beyond issues of money.

It's been a blessing in my life financially, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. When I started, I had no confidence. We all have these little voices in our heads saying things like "No one is going to come to your house to buy clothes." But working with Carlisle and running my own agency has given me a sense of self-confidence and self-esteem that came from knowing that I could run a successful business, that I could handle the responsibility, that my clients do place their trust in me, that I have the respect of the community.

I have over 400 new friends who've come through my house as a result of working with Carlisle. This isn't like walking into a store—there is an instant connection with that person because you know them or someone you know has referred them. You immediately have a relationship. And then it's such a good feeling when you can help them to feel good about themselves.
