TRENDS SPRING 2012

Fashion statements that take you day-through-dinner. City chic. Strictly thoroughbred. Very girl's club. In colors at once subtle and sexy. A fantasy of incredible jackets, amazing suits, fabulous dresses, great prints, couture twins that make everything easy, leather jackets that make everything cool.

THE COLOR STORY

City chic is SHELL PINK our chamois beige, WHEAT our classic flax and LIMESTONE our new take on taupe done in columns, in combo, in tandem with BLACK. Inside the girls' club, the BLACK/WHITE palette is cut with the bracing turquoise of BAY BLUE. Down in thoroughbred country, the story is sunshine bright FIESTA YELLOW while nouveau nautical takes its cue from prep-inspired shades of ALABASTER ivory, wild STRAWBERRY and nearly black MIDNIGHT NAVY. Cool jeweled SAPPHIRE and deliciously tangy SOUR APPLE are the sundrenched colors that, with a jolt of juicy deep-reddish MANDARIN ORANGE, work brilliantly back to BLACK.

1 / COSMOPOLITAN
THE PERFECT WARDROBE. BOARDROOM-TO-BISTRO

City chic in shades of wheat, shell pink and black. Anchored with jackets of incredible cut, texture and pattern. Runway savvy in a wheat/black floral over a sleek sweater/pant combo by day and sexy black dress after five. Cool in couture twins that fasten with chain ties. Beyond the pale in a leather military jacket over a crushed-neck knit and python print skirt; or two-piece dinner dressing that's shirred, ruched, pegged and tethered with tonal snake-embossed leather.

2 / SORORITY
THE GIRLS' CLUB. AN INSIDER'S GUIDE.

The black/white palette cut with feminine bay blues. Find color in jackets both techno and textured; and couture twins to pop over a tapered ankle pant. Edgy is two-piece dressing in a bay-scored black shoulder-chained bateau and ribbon-trimmed skirt; a bay/black animal print mock-wrap duo; and black/white animal print blouse with a maxi-animal print pencil. Black does day in drape-collared cardigan twins over a black/white floral skirt; or jersey-after-dark in a jewelneck jacket, sleeveless scoop and matching pleat-front palazzo.

3 / LEXINGTON
STRICTLY THOROUGHBRED.

Fiesta yellow the story. Topping black and navy in a techno trench, silk matka jacket, drapey ribknit twins; running rampant through patterned dresses and along the edges of a leopard print sweater and border print skirt. Fade to black in a boxy jacket over a matching zip-front dress or fiesta-splashed diamond jacquard sheath. Take it easy in stretchy black/white striped twins. Recruit navies for their textural beauty in modern matched-up skirt suiting or a one-button raffia jacket with a navy/white step-patterned pant.

4 / SEAPORT
NOUVEAU NAUTICAL. MODERN TAKES ON MARITIME.

Rooted in the navy, strawberry and alabaster of classic prep. Found in fabulous jackets of sashed silk matka; breezy navy plissé; double-breasted basketweave; floral-embroidered shantung; the trench that tops navy three-piece suiting; and a reversible alabaster/navy leather buckle-tabbed jacket well-suited to alabaster separates. Stylized are skirts in navy/strawberry houndstooth and leather-appliquéd alabaster. Perfect are dresses in sexy mock-wrapped navy jersey and stunning alabaster double knit.

5 / BOCA
STYLISHLY COASTAL. ALL ABOUT EASE.

In sundrenched shades that work together and zap black/white separates with bright. Sapphire is the cool jewel in hem-tied twins and a rustic silk matka zip-front jacket. Sour apple deliciously tangy in a sashed trench, boxy jacket and scoopy tab-sleeved sweater. The embroidered black/white skirt suit is light, airy, extraordinarily beautiful, a masterpiece of design for any and all occasions. Great print dresses of geometric sateen, floral silk charmeuse and embroidered tattersall plaid take nothing more than a sandal to get you out the door.

6 / SHOWCASE
HOT PICKS. SPRING'S BEST BETS.

Major is mandarin orange with black. The way to wear the color is in silk matka and floral shantung jackets; or a silk twill houndstooth blouse, geometric print scarf and ribbon-appliquéd skirt of many colors. Great fun is orange-dotted black/white two-piece dressing to switch-off with a black piqué blouse; leopard-organza-trimmed twins teamed with a leopard georgette skirt; and the cutest little black dress on the block. Black/white is right on trend in a braid-trimmed tweeded plaid jacket, sheer striped blouse and hothouse floral zip-front dress. After five out of this world in a cascading black silk cutaway jacket and petal-sequined skirt.
